What does your name mean?

A friend was just telling me today about the meaning of her children's names...how special they were, that she selected for them b/c of the meaning. I got to thinking about it, and realized, I have never thought about that. If I thought about it at the time We just chose our kids names b/c we liked them. So....she got me doing a little search about our names. Now that I am looking it up....I think I may have read the meanings, especially Noah's rings a bell...now that I am reading the meanings, I wish I had thought about this when I was naming my kids....even though I do love their names. THIS is the site I am getting my info from

All 3 kids 1st names are Hebrew, whcih I guess I did know that, just hadn't thought about it.

Noah - rest, comfort
Dylan-of the sea, by the sea....(in Greek mythology, the God of the sea was Dylan)

Leah- weary or a Ruler....(I think I like the 2nd one better, but if weary could mean lazy, then that may describe her! ha ha) it can also mean "wild cow", or Gazelle
Nicole- victory of the people

**Then, I also found this, not sure how accutate it all is, but it was someone's comment under the name Leah, and it would make sense for Rachel's name too. (My name is Leah and i was sitting in my Bible class one day and my teacher told me my name actually meant wild cow, i was really sad and others started to make fun of the meaning until he told me that Leah and Rachel's (from the Bible) father was a farmer and he named his daughters after things that were close to his heart he named them after animals. My Best friend also told me that she did a study on the lineage of Jesus and later on in life jacob preferred leah over Rachel, and even had a special burial for her and not rachel. Leah was a strong woman in the Bible who when her husband was not paying attention to her decided to start paying attention to God rather than him. She earned Jacob's respect and i only hope i can grow to be half the woman she turned out to be. )

Rachel- Ewe (meaning a female sheep that is full grown)
Madison - son of Maude, or Matthew's son. And it is still considered more a boy name even though it has grown so popular with girls.

** ( I found this and thought it was a cool bit of info)Madison as a girls name was first introduced as a first name in the Tom Hanks movie "Splash" (1984). In the film, Daryl Hannah's character takes her name from Madison Avenue after walking past a road sign. Hanks' character comments that it is not a real name as, since at the time, it was a rather unusual name for a woman. In the years since the film was released in theatres and video, the name's popularity has skyrocketed.

My name....very hard to find. Mine is a male name, and the closest variation for a girl I can find is Maura, meaning...bitter. That's lovely!! It also says it is a variant of Mary. And my sister's name is Kara...a variant of Katherine. And my mom's name is MARY KATHRYN! I think that is so cool, I remember realizing that one time a while back, and I am pretty sure it wasn't specifically planned that way.

Dawn, my middle name means just what the word means, First appearance of daylight.

Clay's names.....

Clayton.... Clay, and the ton on the end means a settlement
Alexander....defender of men
