When I was 14, I sat at a table with a big group of friends. On the last day of school, I went in there to say goodbye to them, and laid my books on the table. My mom picked me up, I put all the contents of my locker in her trunk, and forgot about it for a few days. When I finally got around to cleaning out the trunk, I found an envelope laying beside it. I opened it, and it was a note from one of the guys I ate with, Thad Smith....asking me out! I couldn't believe it, no guy had ever been interested in me, and I actually liked him too! He was 16, but he couldn't drive yet. I gave him a call....he was about to give up on me! It is a really great memory, and I still have that letter. So, we decided to meet at the movies on Friday night to see.....Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! You know back in the day, Monticello theatre only showed one movie, so we didn't have any other choice!
Clay was 16, and had his own car. We went to church together, and were friends, and he was dating another girl from our church. She was only 15, and her parents wouldn't let her date alone until she was 16, so who got invited tag along???? ME! But, I for once didn't have to be the 3rd wheel! (which was great, b/c I had a huge crush on Clay, and I Hated being along for his dates with someone else!) So...since he lived 1/2 mile away from me on Barkada Rd...he came and picked me up first. Only.....he was late, he had a flat tire! That was the day before cell phones, so I was STROKING that Thad would think I wasn't coming! So, Clay did call to let me know, and he finally got there, not in the best of moods. Then we went and picked up his date. When we go to the movies, luckily Thad was still waiting on my in the lobby, even though the movie had already started. We went our seperate ways, but after the movie, I went out to eat, and was the 3rd wheel, but didn't care this time, just wishedThad had come along with me....but I was too chicken to ask Clay if it were o.k. for him to come along!!
Clay and I were so much apart of each others lives growing up, I didn't even think about it until after we were married....that HE, took me on my first date! I wanted to include a picture of us together at this age, but I was too lazy to go look for one.
