The kids have finally learned how to have fun playing outside. Our backyard is pretty grown up, which we like b/c of the privacy. Noah's ball landed in the brush, and I was watching from the kitchen window....he was really stressing about getting his ball from the brush. Well, he finally got it, and they discovered this brush....made a sort of archway, and a whole world of discovery was back there. They rented The Little Rascals from the library not long ago, so that inspired them. They spent HOURS out there playing today. They started digging in my recycling bin to add to it. Not once did they come in whining to me that they were bored...which they normally do. I enjoyed standing at the window watching, and listening to them and their imagination.
I used to play outside a lot when I was their age. We had a Holly bush in our yard, and I loved to pick the berries and play kitchen outside with them. I was very imaginative in my own little world.....no playmates though, my friends were all made up. I can see there are many more hours of fun to be had out there for our kids.
They had to make a sign...Noah wanted it to be the HeMan Woman haters club, but I told him that wasn't such a good idea since he was sharing it with 2 women! haha So, they named it the Men and womens club....(kinda sounds like gentleman's club to me...haha)
Clay found this old chair in our yard under a window one day after we moved....not sure why it was there...inviting someone to break in possibly....or easy access for a teen to escape? Who knows, but it is not in the clubhouse.
This is the kind of fun we used to have as kids! And what I want my kids to have fun doing. GREAT POST!
ReplyDeleteI had to play by myself when I was little too,I had an older brother but he wanted nothing to do with me.So I did stuff like this.BTW,pretty ingenious hanging the food in the tree...they say to do that to keep bears out. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is my fav post yet. I lived out in my own lil club house world as a kid.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love their clubhouse! It looks like so much fun! I miss those carefree days... and I am SURE that you enjoyed the quiet time!!
