Help us plan a trip!

Nothing like planning for us! Clay and I have a wedding in Hamburg this weekend. The kids have been begging to spend time with their grandparents. We have talked off and on, so we have finally decided to just do it. Clay and I are going to take us a trip....by ourselves! We have been without the kids, or stayed over night when we had a wedding or something, but never a planned, fun trip...just the 2 of us. We thought this would be an early anniversary present...it will be 9 years for us in just a month. We have the babysitters lined up....(I think so anyway...gotta talk to my mom one more time after talking to my mother in law...). We had first thought somewhere south of Monticello so we could swing back through to get the kids. And may still want to do that. My mother in law did offer to bring the kids home to us, so I guess something north of here would be o.k. too. We thought this might be the best time, before we get anymore kids. But, only for about 2 or 3 days...Clay has another wedding the next weekend. Clay mentioned Hot Springs, but it isn't far from here, and we go often enough with the kids....that doesn't seem exciting to me. We did talk about maybe going to Magic Springs and getting to ride the rides without kids...that would be nice. I did remind him though, that the last time we went to Six Flags, right before we were married, we decided that we were already too fat and old...and I told him tonight, well, we are fatter, and older, so do you think we would enjoy it?? LOL

Any ideas?? We would like something calm, quiet, maybe something romantic, but also with a few fun things to do...enough to feel like we actually took a vacation. But I also don't want to spend all our time driving either.

  1. hot springs is nice. at first i thought you were going to vacation in hamburg! yikes.
i also love fayetteville but you might not want to drive that far. petit jean mountain has some nice hikes (that aren't too bad for old people :) i'm much older than you are).
    and there's lake degray.

but for a variety of things to do and nice places to eat you can't beat hot springs. spend a day at the lake then come back for a nice meal.

  2. my next 'small' couple vacation will be in Oden, Arkansas. But you gotta be into quiet cabin, outdoorsy stuff to like it.

  4. About 6 months after Ashton was born, Michael and I went to Hot SPrings. We stayed at the William House (bed and breakfast). The package included dinner on the Belle of Hot Springs and hot bath and massage at one of the bath houses. It was so relaxing.

  5. Let's see...

Tulsa is a neat place to visit. Lots of cool things to take pictures of (in keeping with your day job). There's lots of cool places to eat and shop and it's not terribly far away.

Branson is good for a short trip North...you should try the new Branson Landing. You can eat, stay, and shop all in one spot.

Dallas isn't far, either. LOTS of stuff to do there. Our favorite place to eat in that area is Pappadeaux's. (www.pappadeaux.com) FABULOUS!!!

Those are just some random thoughts. I'll keep thinking and will try to get back with you!! :o) Have fun!!!!!!!!!

  6. Have you checked out the State Parks website? You could stay in a cabin--that's kind of romantic. But if you are like me you actually want to DO something becuase you can only be "romantic" for so long and it remain interesting. :)

I agree with the Branson suggestion if you want to go that far (of course, it is much closer for you...). I LOVE Branson Landing. Branson Scenic Railway is nice too, but prettier in the fall I am sure. And you can't beat the outlet malls for sure. Being a holiday weekend there may be some killer sales.

Oh, and--Magic Springs on July 4th weekend--are you crazy??? Hot and crowded just ain't for me! But whatever you choose--have fun!
