This post is for my mom b/c I wanted her to see what this house looks like now. I don't know if you all know this, but my family growing up lived in Little Rock for 3 yrs, and then North Little Rock for 6 years. We then lived in Magnolia for 1 yr, and Warren for 1 yr, before landing in Monticello. Oh, and I was born in Nasheville, Tennessee. Anyway, besides our house in Monticello, we lived in this house the longest. We moved here when I was 3, and I can remember the moved. I have the very vaguest memories of our house before this...so this is pretty much where my memories begin.
I loved living here. For the longest time after we moved, I still felt like this was MY home. This house wasn't very old when my parents moved into it, and I can remember them spending so much time working in the yard. I remember it had this huge holly bush in the front, and I loved to pick the berrys and play kitchen with them in the backyard. I was my kid's age when we lived there, so now, I find myself thinking about it a lot. I used to ride my Smurfette roller skates in the garage. (and I must say, the don't make em like that anymore. That garge is huge. My dad had 2 vehicles and a boat in there. Our garage that is suppose to be a 2 car, will BARELY fit our 2. It is too crowded to even try)
This house had stairs inside, and I can't remember how many times I fell down those things. The hall bathroom was directly across the hall from my bedroom, and my mom would sing to me everynight while she was taking her bath. I can remember hiding out with my mom in the laundry room one time when we thought there was going to be a tornado, and was so scared. I got my first bike when we lived there, and used to ride it all around the neigborhood, searching for friends to play with. (my sister wasn't born until I was 11) I see myself in Noah so often when he is outside doing that. I thought by having 3 kids he wouldn't have to go through that like I did, but sisters aren't good enough when you long for a brother. I always longed for a sister. There were a TON of boy neighbors at that house to play with. He would have had a field day there! I remember the big black dog our neighbor had that I would play with over the fence. I remember the time that my friend from across the street followed his dad across and got hit by a car.....I heard the horrible sound and looked out my bedroom window. That was my bedroom window to the left above the garage. (oh, and he was o.k....but we went to visit him when he got home and he had a big bandage wrapped around his head) I remember the sweet neighbor lady that took me to school my 1st grade year b/c my parents car had been wrecked, and how she had the only flat driveway in the neighborhood, so she would let all the neighbor kids use her driveway to learn to ride their bike. I also remember when slip and slides first came out and the boy a couple houses down got one, and we slipped and slided all day....until their front yard was a big muddy mess! Lots of good memories in this house.
I have driven past it a few times throughout my life. It has gone through many transformations throughout the years. It was a grayish blue when we lived there. Then it was PINK for a while....looked horrible. Now, it looks like they have put siding on it and put some work into it. And, in the back I saw and AWESOME treehouse that I would have LOVED as a little girl. I went by the other day when the girls were with me b/c I had driven by my old school just by chance, and told them, so then they wanted to see where I used to live. I had my camera with me, so I took a very quick picture of it to show my mom. I didn't want to look like a crazy drive by person taking a picture of these people's house! LOL
I didn't know you lived in Warren when you were a child!
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed pointing out places to my kids and Clayton since we have been back. Of course, the kids aren't all that interested...
WOW! What a great post! I loved reading about your memories!! And, you liked Smurfette, too!! HA! What a sad thing to happen to the little boy...I'm glad he's ok...and now that I've said that, he's probably about 35 years old and has 4 kids of his own and lives in Kentucky or something! Sheesh!!
