Learning to read was our primary goal this past year. This has been our most challenging thing, yet our biggest accomplishment as well. I thought it was going to be the reason I sent my kids to public school, so they could learn to read. Yet, by sticking through it, it has been one of my greatest accomplishments. Watching Noah go from not even knowing all his beginning sounds at the first of the year, to working his way halfway through the 2nd grade Hooked on Phonics series. And watching Leah, look at a word only once, and be able to read it. Watching her read books voluntarily to Rachel. These kids did not learn to read by anything magical I did, b/c had it been up to me alone, I would have failed. SO many times with Noah I would just throw in the towel and say, "I can't teach him how to read". And those times, when I just relaxed, took the pressure off him, that is when he did the best. Once I quit making him stick to the curriculum, he would go to the library and pick out the books HE wanted to read, and we would work through them. Then, when we got our curriculum back out, he breezed through it. Seeing my kids know how to read....I will always be able to look at our experience together and it will be so special how much we learned together.
That pointer finger following along in the book is so cute to me
